The Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) Agreement represents a landmark step in international ocean governance, aiming to establish mechanisms for the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction (ABNJ). One of the fundamental ecological principles underpinning effective implementation of the BBNJ Agreement is ecological connectivity, defined by the Convention on Migratory Species as: “the unimpeded movement of species, connection
