According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC’s) Sixth Assessment Report, which includes a major new modelling exercise, mean annual temperatures have shown an increase of 0.2°C to 0.5°C per decade. Under each of the major emissions scenarios assessed, a global temperature increase of 1.5°C over pre-industrial levels is likely to be exceeded in the next decade or so, and by mid-century all but the lowest emissions scenarios suggest temperature increases of 2°C or more.
