HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that attacks the body’s immune system which, untreated, increases the risk of infections like tuberculosis (TB) and pneumonia and some cancers (1,2,3). Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is the most advanced stage of the disease (2). HIV is transmitted from the body fluids of a person living with HIV, including blood, breast milk, semen and vaginal fluids. Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is effective in treating HIV through viral suppression.
