The impact of conflict is highly visible in terms of Syria’s population count and demographic structure. The direct and indirect impact of the conflict on Syria’s population might be quantified in a 20 percent contraction, with the population estimates for 2022 being short of 5 million individuals compared with pre-conflict estimates. In addition, conflict has dramatically affected the gender structure of the population, with a substantial male deficit concentrated in the 20 to 40 age group.
