A growing body of research demonstrates that social capital is associated with better mental health outcomes but the precise nature of this association varies from study to study. Kenisha Russell Jonsson and colleagues have examined the relationship between neighbourhood social capital and mental health among young adolescents in England and Wales (Jonsson et al. 2020). By merging data from the UK Household Longitudinal Study with aggregated local census measures, they analysed a sample of 5,
