Ensuring foundational learning for all children is critical. Foundational learning refers to the basic literacy, numeracy and socio-emotional skills that are the building blocks for all other learning, knowledge and higher-order skills. Without acquiring foundational learning, children struggle to thrive in school and are more likely to repeat a grade or drop out.
