Personal P&C insurance represented about $1.1 trillion in gross written premiums in 2023, about a quarter of the insurance industry’s total premiums.1 Premium growth of 9.5 percent in 2022–23 outpaced nominal global GDP by half a percentage point,2 marking a reversal from the period from 2019 to 2022, when premiums grew by 3.2 percent per year and lagged behind GDP by 13 percentage points over three years. This expansion was mainly driven by carriers pushing for rate adequacy after
